A five-year old kid, who was admitted to the hospital where I work, asked me why I was wearing pajamas during my working hours. He found it amazing that the nurses here were allowed to use these clothing in the emergency pediatric unit. I had to explain to him that I was wearing a medical uniform which is popularly termed as scrubs uniforms. Most of the workplaces have stringent dress codes. The corporate organizations stick to the business suites for their employees. Imagine a nurse in the emergency unit wearing something as uncomfortable as business attire. The uniforms are designed these days with utmost comfort in mind. Few years ago the scrubs were restricted to the doctors and nurses in the operating room. Today, the health care industry believes that the professionals in emergency units, pediatric units or even intensive care units should be allowed to wear these for greater flexibility. In my profession, there is lot of messy work involved. The clothing might demand rigorous washing to remove the blood stains or even the bacteria.
I explained to the kid that the scrub tops that I wear are made with the excellent clothing which would provide us with great comfort to perform the work better. The fade resistant fabric of the cheap scrubs that I purchased online allows me to run, bend and stretch during emergencies without tearing the uniform. I can also carry the necessary instruments in the pocket of these clothing.
